Job summary

We are looking for a motivated, compassionate, forward thinking Health Care

Assistant, preferably with primary care experience, to join the multidisciplinary team at West End Surgery. The practice team consists of 5 GP, 1 Physician Associate, 2 Clinical Pharmacist, 1 Practice Nurses, 1 Health Care Assistants and a very supportive administration and reception team.

We believe this to be an exciting opportunity for a Health Care Assistant who would like to apply their skills to ensure safe and efficient prescribing in general practice.

The successful candidate will support our clinical team in providing safe, effective, and patient-centred care while promoting health and wellbeingwithin our local community.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will

a) Record observations including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen, saturation, height, weight, and BMI.

b) Undertake venepuncture safely and effectively.

c) Carry out ECG recordings.

d) Perform new patient health checks.

e) Administer vaccinations where appropriately trained and delegated.

f) Support long-term condition monitoring clinics.

g) Undertake lifestyle assessments and provide health promotion advice.

h) Chaperone patients during examinations when required.

i) Maintain accurate clinical records using the practice clinical system.

j) Clean, stock, and prepare clinical rooms and equipment.

k) Ensure infection prevention and control procedures are followed.

l) Participate in clinical audits, mandatory training, and quality improvementinitiatives.

To work as part of the primary care team, providing high-quality patient careunder the direction and supervision of registered nurses and GeneralPractitioners (GPs). The Healthcare Assistant will support the delivery of safe,effective, and patient-centred care while promoting health, preventing illness,and assisting with chronic disease management.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

Undertake new patient health checks.

Measure and record:

Blood pressure

Pulse

Respiratory rate

Temperature

Height and weight

Body Mass Index (BMI)

Perform venepuncture.

Carry out ECG recordings.

Perform Wound Care Dressings

Record observations accurately within the clinical system.

Administer vaccinations and immunisations where appropriately trained and authorised.

Assist with infection prevention and control procedures.

Health Promotion

Promote healthy lifestyle choices.

Provide smoking cessation advice .

Encourage participation in national screening programmes.

Support patients with weight management advice.

Signpost patients to appropriate health and community services.

Patient Care

Ensure patients are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Obtain informed consent before carrying out procedures.

Recognise deterioration or concerns and escalate appropriately.

Provide reassurance and support to patients and carers.

Administrative Responsibilities

Maintain accurate and timely patient records.

Use electronic clinical systems effectively.

Manage clinical stock and supplies.

Clean and prepare clinical rooms.

Ensure equipment is maintained and calibrated.

Participate in audit activities where required.

Infection Prevention and Control
